School nurses give swine flu vaccine to kids without parents' permission, sends child to hospital

NY Daily News | School nurses mistakenly gave the swine flu vaccine to two students who didn't sign up for it - including a Brooklyn girl with epilepsy who wound up in the hospital.
"I was outraged," Naomi Troy, 26, told the Daily News after her 6-year-old daughter, Nikiyah Torres-Pierre, had a possible allergic reaction to the shot.
Officials at Public School 335 in Crown Heights called an ambulance to take Nikiyah to SUNY Downstate Medical Center when she fell ill following the arm jab.
"My stomach was hurting, and I was itching," Nikiyah said after she was released from the hospital.
The snafu and a similar mixup at a Staten Island school came in the first days of the city's in-school H1N1 vaccination program.
City officials have stressed the vaccine is safe and urged parents to sign up for it - though less than half have sent in permission slips.
Troy was waiting for advice from her family doctor on whether Nikiyah should get the shot since she takes medicine to control her epilepsy.
When the nurse called for a student Thursday morning, Nikiyah's teacher misunderstood and sent the wrong student, Troy said.
The error was compounded when the nurse didn't check Nikiyah's name before sticking her in the shoulder, the mother said.
"The school made a horrible mistake," she added. "They never asked for her name. They have no paperwork....How do you make a mistake like this?"
After the mistake was discovered, officials summoned Troy to the school, she said.
Troy said the nurse - a Department of Health employee - tried to get her to sign a consent form, after the fact.
"I was insulted. I was really angry. 'You just incriminated yourself even more,'" Troy recalled thinking.
"If they'd taken proper precautions in the school this never would have happened."
A student at PS 65 in Staten Island also received the vaccine without parental permission on Wednesday, but officials gave no further details.
Officials for the nurses union declined to comment. The Health Department said the incidents were under investigation.
"The Health Department does not expect any future adverse medical effects for these children, but we are working to determine how this misstep occurred," said spokeswoman Jessica Scaperotti.
"We will develop additional safeguards to prevent similar instances in the future."
She added that the vaccine is safe for kids suffering from epilepsy.
Roughly 1,800 students have received the vaccine in the first phase of the school blitz.

Paul will visit the key early primary state of South Carolina on Nov. 9 to give a speech on “the future of individual liberty and the importance of the U.S. Constitution” at the University of South Carolina. He then moves on to Iowa, another key early presidential battleground, on Nov. 13 to speak to students at Iowa State University.
“This morning speculation was rife that South Carolina, which holds one of the early primaries in the presidential calendar, could be the launching pad for a new Ron Paul bid,” reports the L.A. Times’ Johanna Neuman.

Alex Jones commented on the story by pointing out that 2012 would be the perfect time to Ron Paul to launch his second bid for the presidency, following the massive grass roots success of the first campaign. Jones successfully predicted that the Congressman’s son, Rand Paul, would run for the Senate after he challenged him to do so publicly, which led the incumbent Senator in Kentucky to announce that he would not run against Rand Paul.
Jones said that Paul is the only candidate who will inject real issues into an otherwise sterile debate format and that with the world government takeover unfolding at rapid pace, the timing could not be more prescient. Jones urged Paul to announce as early as possible, preferably before February 2010, so that the maximum amount of momentum could be put behind the campaign and fundraising could start early. Jones recalled that the Congressman was surprised at the level of support that was generated behind his 2007-2008 campaign, but that this had been predicted by the Austin talk show host from the beginning.
Paul would be able to harness a perfect soapbox opportunity to highlight the fact that the very things he has been warning about for decades are all coming into fruition as we approach 2012. Everything From Here to There | If you follow some of the links I have been supplying as of late, you’ll notice many are focused on the propaganda build up to our day of reckoning with the Swine Flu virus. I say ‘propaganda’ because, in my heart, there is something mighty suspicious about declaring an emergency for something that has yet to show itself to be a grand pandemic. Our American President Obama has declared a national emergency about this virus, which he in his own words said was, at this point, a preventative measure. So, why declare an emergency if there isn’t one?
I am not a doctor, and I am in no way suggesting that you should follow any medical advice from me. What you do with your body, what you put into it, who you allow to love it or hate on it, is your business. I am more focused on the vibration that has us all so fearful: both for how the fear affects our thinking, and how, in our fear, we attract the worst, and, in conjunction with that, how those fears are used by others without integrity to try to create a power against Us to promote discomfort and dis-ease.
I have friends that have gotten the swine flu. All of them told me they felt very, very sick, and that it was awful. So I’m not in any way suggesting that the H1N1 virus is not real.
I would suggest however that it is possible the virus is not a naturally occurring virus. I have read reports from people who say (as doctors) that there is evidence to suggest this virus was created by man; to call it Swine Flu is then a misnomer, as it really is Swine Flu plus some other stuff stitched together. These doctors said such genetic mutation was impossible in nature.
So you have a situation here where you can examine your own Mind-Body-Soul power staring in the face of Death itself. Assume this flu is the worst thing to ever hit this planet, worse than the beubonic plague of the Middle Ages, or worse than any war ever conjured up. Evil itself has come to wreak havoc on the planet. Assume, for the sake of argument, it is The End.
Well, where does that leave you? Do you quit work? Do you run away? Do you stand still and hope Death walks past you?
I for one will not be taking the vaccine. I do not trust those who make the vaccines, or the apperatus behind it all to push it on us thru fear. This is not judgment; it is a personal decision based on research, intuition, conversations with my doctor and my ‘family’. If the virus comes to take me Home, that is between me and the Lord. I have put up some of these links to inspire the question in you, so that perhaps you can make a better decision for yourself. That is what holistic life is about: a willingness to look at all the facts or opinions.
I am willing to question anything: the existence of God, the existence of me or you or Robert Zimmerman. I am willing to wonder aloud whether any of this we experience here on Earth is real. What is there to be afraid of in questioning life itself? I know God is not afraid of my doubt. That is why He gave me the faculty to doubt, to overcome its mystique to better know faith.
If the propaganda machine kicked into overdrive about kindness, manners, working together, human ingenuity, and grace, then maybe I would view its function differently. But its current function is to maim and distort the truth, not to enlighten. How do I know this? Because it has fear attached to it, because it uses fear to move energy. Anything connected to fear is definitely not connected to Love or the promotion of Love.
Scaring the daylights out of you over a virus or an unseen enemy only weakens us. Calm, open debate, and logical thought drive strength to its maximum effectiveness. The system works broken, because it is to the system’s advantage to do so. The system pretends to have a limp and a heart so you’ll think it is both listening to you and incapable of moving too fast.
The state of Massachusetts here in America is about to sign into law (if it hasn’t already) for a mandatory vaccination. The state will have the power to come into your home and incarcerate you for being unwilling to comply with a vaccination order. Didn’t you hear? Soon, you won’t even have the choice to live OR die as you wish!
The deeper message here might be that people will soon be ready to abandon the idea of a paternalistic system that governs this world. Before doing so, we must face down our deeper fears about our own liberty and tolerance. The time is coming when we will cast votes with our hearts and not our minds.

NASA's new moon rocket makes first test flight

AP | NASA's newest rocket successfully completed a brief test flight Wednesday, the first step in a back-to-the-moon program that could yet be shelved by the White House.
The 327-foot Ares I-X rocket resembled a giant white pencil as it shot into the sky, delayed a day by poor weather.
Nearly twice the height of the spaceship it's supposed to replace — the shuttle — the skinny experimental rocket carried no passengers or payload, only throwaway ballast and hundreds of sensors. The flight cost $445 million.
NASA said the flight was a tremendous success, based on early indications.
"Oh, man. Well, how impressive is that," said Jeff Hanley, manager of NASA's space frontier program, known as Constellation. "You've accomplished a great step forward for exploration," he told launch controllers.
It was the first time in nearly 30 years that a new rocket took off from Kennedy Space Center. Columbia made the maiden voyage for the shuttle fleet back in 1981.
Liftoff, in fact, occurred 48 years and one day after the first launch of a Saturn rocket, a precursor to what carried astronauts to the moon during the Apollo program. The Saturn V moon rockets were the tallest ever built, an impressive 363 feet.
Wednesday's launch, three years in the making, represented the first step in NASA's effort to return astronauts to the moon. The White House, though, is re-evaluating the human spaceflight program and may dump the Ares I in favor of another type of rocket and possibly another destination.
The test flight attracted a large crowd.
The prototype moon rocket took off through a few clouds from a former shuttle launch pad at 11:30 a.m., 3 1/2 hours late because of bad weather. Launch controllers had to retest the rocket systems after more than 150 lightning strikes were reported around the pad overnight. Then they had to wait out interfering rain clouds, the same kind that thwarted Tuesday's try.
The ballistic flight did not come close to reaching space and, as expected, lasted a mere two minutes. That's how long it took for the first-stage solid-fuel booster to burn out and separate from the mock upper stage 25 miles up. But it will take months to analyze all the data from the approximately 725 pressure, strain and acceleration sensors.
Parachutes popped open and dropped the booster into the Atlantic, where recovery ships waited.
The upper portion of the rocket — all fake parts — were hurtled to an estimated altitude of 28 miles and then fell uncontrolled into the ocean. Those pieces were never meant to be retrieved.
It was all over in six minutes.
"Think about what we just did. Our first flight test and the only thing we're waiting on was weather," launch director Ed Mango told his team.
NASA contends the Ares I will be ready to carry astronauts to the International Space Station in 2015, four to five years after the shuttles are retired. But a panel of experts said in a report to President Barack Obama last week that it will be more like 2017, and stressed that the entire effort is underfunded.
The first Ares moon trip would be years beyond that under the current plan.
No matter what direction the Obama Administration takes, NASA managers expect to learn a lot from Wednesday's experimental flight, even if it's for another type of rocket. They said they already have learned a lot.
Hanley, for one, does not to hear anymore about the cloudy, electrically charged conditions — triboelectrification — that made it so difficult to get this test rocket off the ground. Future rockets will have proper protection.
"Whatever we end up flying, this will not be a problem," he promised.

Is the light really a good thing? At the very least, one should not be burning an image of a cross. It seems like the “light” of Lucifer touted by the elite Mason Albert Pike who revised and invented their modern rituals in his Freemason texts.

MSNBC | New Yorkers will soon feel police presence in a way they've never felt it before.
The New York Police Department has installed "rumblers," or ground-shaking sound devices on some of their cars, to make sure that even those who can't see or hear an approaching police car, will now be able to feel it, up to 200 feet away.
"It emits vibration that can be felt, so drivers, even with their windows rolled up and stereos on, can be alerted to the approach of emergency vehicles, " NYPD spokesman Paul Browne told the New York Post. "It also gets the attention of pedestrians with headphones or iPods of who may be otherwise inattentive to conventional sirens."
Not everyone is celebrating the new devices, which were installed on 25 cars last week, and 132 more today.
"The NYPD purchased and installed the equipment with no oversight, no public hearings, and with no evident liability for the massive noise pollution they are about to inflict on New Yorkers, all in the name of public safety," Richard Tur, founder of NoiseOFF.org, wrote in an e-mail. "For people who live near any of the dozens of police precincts around the city and the boroughs, this is going to be an acoustic nightmare."
Tur also points to medical concerns associated with the device--concerns identified by the rumbler's manufacturer, Federal Signal Corp. The company website warns that "audible equipment may cause hearing damage," and encourages uses to wear hearing protection.
As a safety precaution, the device turns off automatically after 10 seconds, though it can be switched on again manually.

Singularity Hub | Brother Industries, Ltd. has just announced that next year it plans to produce Retinal Imaging Display (RID) glasses that augment regular vision. Just as in the popular Terminator movies, these glasses could project supplemental information into your field of vision to augment your normal vision. Although Brother and most of the blogosphere is hyping that the product will be ready by 2010, I am skeptical. Even if they do appear in 2010, will the quality and form factor of the glasses be reasonable? I doubt it. Augmented reality sent directly into our retinas is certainly on the horizon, and its going to be awesome…but the technology still needs several more years of innovation before it is ready to break out. In the meantime, we can wet our imaginations with what is to come.
So how do the RID glasses work anyway? For those that want to get more depth on how the whole RID thing works, a decent place to start seems to be available from the US Navy. Sadly the information from Brother is pretty thin, only adding to my skepticism of their product plan. The glasses are equipped with an attachment piece that literally projects light onto your retina. The light source for the eyepiece comes from a hard drive sized laser generator that you would have to carry on your hip or somewhere on your body. Brother claims that the images are transparent enough that they don’t interfere with the real visual field of what you are seeing.
It sounds great in theory, but does it really work as advertised and without complications? What about the images causing headaches due to temporal distortion, image stabilization, and other factors? How is the augmented information correlated in realtime with the real images streaming into your field of vision? Will the images being projected into your retina be of high enough resolution to see writing and other informative data crisply? All of these issues and more will need to be addressed before Brother is able to offer a viable product.Don’t get me wrong – I certainly commend Brother for working to develop such a neat product and I am excited to see where they can go with this. I just think we need to set reasonable expectations for the timeline of their product development. The Hub has reviewed several augmented reality applications that already exist on iphones and elsewhere and even a contact lens concept, and now Brother introduces us to the possibility of wearable awesomeness. The real and virtual worlds continue to collide, but it will still be several years before this collision starts to make some really big waves. In the meantime maybe its time to watch that Terminator movie again – I’m pretty sure augmented reality is not the only part of our future that the movie foretells…
